So (Un)Real: Jeff Buckley Goes Hollywood

It appears that there are now two competing Jeff Buckley biopics in the works. The first announcement came in April when music video director Jake Scott was signed to direct an untitled project about the late singer/songwriter. The project received the blessing of the Jeff Buckley estate, with Jeff's mother, Mary Guibert, on as executive producer. In addition to all inclusive music rights, the project also acquired the rights to the 2001 David Browne biography, Dream Brother: The Lives and Music of Jeff and Tim Buckley.

Today, there was a big announcement that actor Penn Badgley had landed the role of Jeff Buckley for another film titled "Greetings from Tim Buckley." This project, helmed by Dan Algrant, has backing from the Tim Buckley estate. Its logline reads:

“Greetings from Tim Buckley” follows the true story of the days leading up to Jeff Buckley’s eminent 1991 performance at his father’s tribute concert in St. Ann’s Church. Through a romance with a young woman working at the concert, he comes to understand the father who abandoned him. Culminating in a cathartic performance of his father’s most famous songs, Jeff’s debut stuns the audience and launches his career as one of the greatest young musicians of his time.

"Greetings from Tim Buckley" is set to start filming in August in New York. The untitled Jake Scott project is currently in preproduction and has yet to cast its leading role.

Learning Secrets presents In Flagranti at Beauty Bar | June 11

In Flagranti encapsulates all aspects of throw away culture from the 70s with both the music and visuals that made it a must. Sasa Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor of In Flagranti, work with a formula for club hits that was both unique and new in 2002 when they formed, and has now become synonymous within DJing circles and the dance music world. Best described as a sonic collage of twisted sounds from an era that no-one should ever forget, with a mild hint of disco and punk, the duo has maintained a cult following and mystique that grows stronger and deeper with each release on their own Codek Records.

This Saturday, June 11th Austin's own disco duo, Orthy and Thomas-Austin of Learning Secrets, will be hosting In Flagranti's first trip to Texas at their next classic LS party at the Beauty Bar.
