I don't we've ever made it out to any of the Waterloo Records In-stores during SXSW. It's a shame cause the lineups are usually pretty good too. Tonight! The Roaries, Robyn and Ultra8201 Turns 5 at Malverde

Tonight's the night! First up we have The 2011 Roaries Music Awards. Republic of Austin's brainchild with nominees and winners chosen by the readers. The awards for everything from Best Weekly to Best Band will be given out at The Ghost Room starting at 7pm. They were also kind enough to invite yours truly to present an award tonight so I will be handing out the award for Best Weekly Event to a lucky winner. Some of Austin's finest local talent will also be performing during the show with The Black and White Years closing things out.

Voting is going on till the end of the day so make sure to get in those last minute votes now! [The Roaries.com]

After my presenting duties are completed I will head down to the brand new ACL Live for my very first show at the venue. I have heard a lot of good things and I am excited to check it out. It will also be my first time to check out Robyn.

Robyn

For those not familiar with Robyn via ACL Live:

Robyn puts on a hell of a show. It’s a chance for hipsters to see the kind of production that a pop diva can offer without having to lie to others about their plans for the evening. And even though there may be a little bit of arbitrary snobbery in Robyn’s free pass as a pop singer, the fact is that she is pretty damn awesome. Body Talk Pt. 2 sees coll-abs with artists as diverse as Diplo and Snoop Dogg (one of the best singles of the year, easy). This venture does appear to be a pretty minimal endeavour (small venues, few stops), but remember, Body Talk is a trilogy, Body Talk Pt. 3 comes out November 22, so surely she will end this pretty rad experiment with a bang.

Natalia Kills and Diamond Rings support. Tickets are still available for only $15!!! [Purchase]

And after the show we will be finishing up things with a little celebration ourselves as we celebrate 5 years in the blog game. That's 5 years of drunk blogging, procrastination, +1's, undeserved VIP credentials and other kinds of randomness. What started out as a hobby has turned into something really special over the years and I want to thank everyone that has read, supported and worked with us over the years in person so please join us.

The extremely talented Learning Secrets DJ's have been kind enough to share their weekly with us and will be spinning throughout the evening. There is no cover and we will have drink specials all night [$2 Tall Boys and $3 Wells]. The party begins immediately after the Robyn show at ACL Live. If you read this blog you are probably going to be there and Malverde is right across the street! Ahh convenience......

See you all tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Show Spotlight: Shapes Have Fangs at The Ghost Room Tonight (2/10)

Because we love the interns so so much and everyone else involved is pretty bad ass we HIGHLY suggest everyone get down to The Ghost Room tonight. Cold or warm I want to see your face there.

Details:

A new year, a fresh lineup of events: Knuckle Rumbler is kicking things off in a big way on February 10th, with Shapes Have Fangs headlining the first of many concerts this spring at the Ghost Room. Like a 50’s blues 45 sped up a little too fast, Shapes Have Fangs keep the surf rock flowing while lead guitarist/vocalist Dustin Coffey’s edgy melodies and thrashing guitar riffs spark like two stones struck together.

Rayon Beach gets you prepped, luring you away from the waves and back towards shore with their overdriven, echoed-out garage rock that sounds like an intermittent radio broadcast of a beach party from another dimension. 60’s blues rock-inspired three-piece The Daze and the raucously tripped out Eets Feats round out 4+ hours of Austin’s most dynamic live acts, which did we mention is all for only 5 bucks?

Red River Noise, Austin Town Hall and Republic of Austin all sponsor this event where the first 100 through the door receive a free drink, courtesy of Waterloo Ice House. Birds Barbershop will be on hand hosting a photo booth (don’t worry, there will be plenty of gaudy wigs and hairspray to go around) and future Knuckle Rumbler tickets will be raffled off throughout the night. The show begins promptly at 9:00 PM, so make sure you’re there in time to grab your free adult beverage catch Eets Feats kick off what is to be a hazy night of fuzzed out retro rock and the first of many Knuckle Rumblings at the Ghost Room this spring.

February 10 @ The Ghost Room
304 W. 4th Street
with Shapes Have Fangs, Rayon Beach, The Daze and Eets Feats
Doors @ 9pm, cover: $5
Chance you will leave with somebody: 70%

The Strokes Stream New Song "Under Cover Of Darkness" / Hint at SXSW Appearance

The Strokes have made their newest single "Under Cover Of Darkness" available for streaming for the next 48 hours on their website. It literally just went up as this post is published so head there now to give it a listen (site may be sluggish). The bands manager Ryan Gentles also hinted at a possible SXSW appearance when he tweeted "SXSW - The Strokes… more to come on thestrokes.com" and pretty much left it at that. Makes sense though seeing that the release of their album will be a week after the conference. The album titled Angles will be released officially March 22nd.

Listen

The Strokes - Angles Track Listing

1. Machu Picchu
2. Under Cover of Darkness
3. Two Kinds of Happiness
4. You’re So Right
5. Taken For A Fool
6. Games
7. Call Me Back
8. Gratisfaction
9. Metabolism
10. Life Is Simple In The Moonlight

Show Spotlight: Candi and The Strangers Release Party at The ND | Tonight (2/5)

Candi and The Strangers instantly caught my attention when I saw them last summer. So much so that I went to see them three times in two weeks. Their sound draws from 80's synth pop that could easily be compared to Berlin or if you want a more modern comparison Glass Candy. They just completed their debut 10th of Always and we were treated to an advance listen and it's great.

Tonight they celebrate this release with a performance at The ND. They will be joined by Masonic, Ricky Jean Francois and Total Unicorn. They also promise to perform the new album from start to finish. Check it out.
