The Dead Weather Streaming "Sea of Cowards" Live, but with a twist..

Never one to do anything the traditional way Jack White and the rest of The Dead Weather are streaming their entire album "Sea of Cowards" (due May 11th) on their official website right now. The twist is that they are streaming a live feed of the album being played on vinyl. This doesn't come as a surprise coming from a guy that is one of the biggest rock stars on the planet and doesn't even own a cell phone. Here is a video for "Treat Me Like Your Mother" (because I think the video kicks ass and will always put it up when given a good enough reason.)

[Listen to "Sea of Cowards" Now]
The band are playing a very SOLD OUT show tonight at Stubbs. We of course will have some pictures and video from that up this week.

Video: The Black Keys "Next Girl"

Take the text scrolling across the bottom with a grain of salt. The video is legit and pretty damn genius if you ask me.

Video: Local Natives "Airplanes" | Live at Antones

This video from last Friday's Local Natives show at Antone's came out really dark but sounds great. Easily one of the best bands I have seen this year.

Show Spotlight: "Show and Tell" Benefiting Austin's Groundwork Music Project

This Thursday (4/29) at The Mohawk you get the best of both worlds. A solid night of music and the chance to help out a great cause. "Show and Tell" (presented by Do512 and Southside Sanctuary) boasts live performances by one of Austin's most exciting new bands SPEAK (check out the bands Britney Spears cover below) along with Crash Gallery, Hot Britches, FM Campers, Castle Nova, Sons of Sherri and the amazing Redboys. The entire show will be benefitting Austin's Groundwork Project - a local non profit that facilitates music education for preschools that lack the funding for their own programs.

The Happy Hour at the show will be from 8-9 with free drinks from Lone Star Beer and Austin's new sweet-tea flavored Deep Eddy Vodka. For one hour, you can come drink for free, but there will be specials on both throughout the night!

In addition to the music one of Austin's favorite photogs Trevor Ray will have a spectacular photo booth set up for those of you who wish to document your evening with some epic pics. Southside Sanctuary Printshop will be rolling out the big guns (in this case, their old school El Camino mobile printshop) and will be stationed out front giving away FREE SHIRTS. And to top it all off, raffle tickets will be available for $2 (or 3 for $5) to give everyone a chance to win more free prizes, including a pair of tickets to see NEIL YOUNG at Bass Hall (donated by Texas Performing Arts).

Video: M.I.A | Born Free (NSFW)

This video is extremely graphic (directed by Romain-Gavras, the same guy who did the gang violence video for Justice's "Stress") and extremely NSFW unless you have a cool job and they don't really care about what you watch. More importantly this is one of the most interesting videos I have seen in a while and definitely worth watching all the way through.

Mew | "Beach" Video

Although the music takes a few minutes to kick in, stick with it because you'll definitely enjoy the incredibly creative new video from Mew.

Voxtrot Breaks Up / Announces "Goodbye, Cruel World" Tour (w/ Austin Date)

It seemed as though this was a long time coming but it's still sad to see a band with such promise call it quits. The band posted a lengthy explanation of why they are disbanding on their website today. Here is an excerpt:

The career path of Voxtrot was truly one of long, simmering build, explosion, and almost instantaneous decay. Slowly, I am learning to replace any feelings of regret with positive memories of how amazing the whole thing was, and how it has, in an unexpected way, fortified my character.

Making great art requires one to be fearless, and sometimes I've given too much energy to fear. Whenever I read an interview in which a band claims they are going to return to the sound of their earlier, more popular work, a small part of me aches for them. It doesn't work like that-the popularity of the earlier work is based upon the sense of newness felt by the musicians at the time of creation. So, how to get back the newness…?

Approximately eight months ago, I spoke to my friend Simon and indicated that I was ready to give up on music, or at least leave it for the indefinite future, but he reminded me that you can't dedicate yourself to another job or a degree, or some other distraction just because you've got nothing else going-if you have the feeling that you were born to do something, you've got to follow that feeling.

As he told me, "Do it because you love music. Do it with passion."

Ghostland Observatory begin work on new album

Over the last few weeks Ghostland Observatory has been leaving cryptic messages via their Twitter and Facebook pages and today we get a little preview of what exactly they have in the works. Well sort of. We do know that they are working under the Codename: Rondo and that they are working on their 4th album as we speak. The duo just released some photos from the studio and they are quite impressive.

I haven't been able to stop listening to The Morning Benders' Big Echo since catching them at our SXSW party last month. Here's the video for "Promises", which features a couple of kids doing things they have no business doing. Also, if you like to catch an acoustic version of the song, check one out here.

Show Spotlight: Erol Alkan at Republic Live

From Learning Secrets:

Legend, hero, role model, just damned amazing...yes Erol Alkan is all that! We couldn't be more excited or more honored to have Mr. Alkan be our special guest for the April edition of Learning Secrets! Not only that, but we're proud to announce that Learning Secrets is one of his only US dates aside from SF and Coachella! Texas, we want to see you all here!

From running the legendary and highly influencial TRASH! party in London, to producing some of the biggest dance remixes (Justice's "Water of Nazareth", Hot Chip's "Boy From School", Franz Ferdinand's "Do You Want To", Klaxons' "Golden Skans", Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Zero"), to producing some of the UK's most forward thinking bands (Mystery Jets, Late Of The Pier, Long Blondes), to his odd psych-rock dance hybrid alter ego Beyond The Wizard Sleeve, to his new work with Boys Noize, Erol Alkan is pretty much DJ royalty in our eyes!

His Bugged Out mix is classic, his new track 'Death Suite' with Boyz Noize is total bonkers, and if you've ever had the priviledge of seeing him DJ you know the true magicalness of his talent. Erol Alkan has played an intergral part in creating and progressing the current shape of dance music, and, there is no doubt that if it wasn't for Erol Alkan, or his legendary TRASH! party, there would be no Learning Secrets! Thursday, April 15th, Austin, TX will finally get experience what thousands upon thousands of music fans, both of the electronic world and the rock world have known for years!

Learning Secrets Residents Ian Orth and Thomas'Austin open the night, along with an opening set from Bill Converse (MENRG), and a live set from Survive.

We're also super excited to announce that this event is 18+!
