Blur Documentary "No Distance Left To Run" (Trailer)

Blur394.jpg image by blur_damon

Taken from Blur's official site:
A feature length documentary film telling the story of blur is due for cinema release on January 19th. “No Distance Left to Run” is directed by 32 (Dylan Southern & Will Lovelace) and is a Pulse Films production.

Filmed throughout the band’s 2009 rehearsals and acclaimed summer tour, No Distance Left To Run finds all four members of Blur together for the first time in nine years. With previously unseen archive material alongside new interviews and reportage, the film recounts the highs and lows of a very British band from the late 80’s to their headline return at Glastonbury and Hyde Park. The result is a musing on Englishness and identity and a portrait of friendship and resolution.

"The Beatles on Record" Premieres Tonight on the History Channel

http://imagecache5.art.com/p/LRG/19/1921/RXN9D00Z/g%C3%BCnter-edlinger-the-beatles.jpg
Tonight at 10 (ET), the History Channel will premiere a new documentary entitled "The Beatles On Record". We already have our DVR set and so should you. For a sneak preview, watch the first nine minutes down below.

Taken from the History Channel website:
In 1962, an unknown group from Liverpool entered Abbey Road Studios to record their debut single. During the next eight years they created what is arguably regarded as the greatest collection of studio recordings of the 20th century. This special charts The Beatles' extraordinary journey in the studio from "Please Please Me" to "Abbey Road" and reflects on how they developed as musicians, matured as songwriters and created a body of work that sounds as fresh in 2009 as the time it was recorded. Narrated entirely by John, Paul, George, Ringo and Sir George Martin, the documentary features over 60 classic songs, rare footage and photos from The Beatles' archives and never heard before out-takes of studio chat from the "Abbey Road" recording sessions.

Red Bull Locally Thrown : December 10th at The Mohawk

A good idea and for a great cause. I still can't believe Ian from Riverboat Gamblers showed up at Fun Fun Fun Fest against doctors orders. Very Rock and Roll. Here are the details:

Red Bull Locally Thrown brings six local DJ's (DJ Manny, DJ Orion, PREPMODE, DJ BigFace, Richard Gear & DJ JE) to the table to spin their party mixes of Austin's best local live music.

10 bands being mixed are: The Octopus Project, Riverboat Gamblers, LIONS, The Black & White Years, White Ghost Shivers, Nelo, The Lemurs, Brothers & Sisters, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears and The Story Of.

$5 suggested donation at the door >> Proceeds will go to Riverboat Gamblers, whose guitarist Ian MacDougall was seriously injured recently after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle.

Warpaint return to Austin with Akron/Family 2/24

We saw Warpaint at Emo's last month and have been obsessed with their music ever since. That night I bought the E.P on iTunes after purchasing it on vinyl at the show. The band is ridiculously good and we honestly didn't expect to see them back till SXSW. So you can imagine our excitement when we saw the band would be back in February at The Parish in support of Akron/Family. Here are the tour dates, plus our video of the ladies performing "Stars" at Emo's.

Show Spotlight: Custodian Album Release Party At Birds Barbershop (Tonight 11/21)

custodian release web

From Artifact Workshop:

Listen up! The album release of Ultra-Fresh by CUSTODIAN Is happening this Saturday November 21st at the Birds Barbershop on East 6th! Here, you will be treated to the East Austin Studio Tour artwork, hot toonz from DJ Andy (the Mouth) and lastly a clean and fresh performance from the guests of honor : CUSTODIAN. Lonestar Beer will be out in full effect making sure everyone is having a grand ol time but it is pretty hard to go to an event at Austin institution Birds Barbershop and not walk away with a giant grin on your face. This will be the first time the limited edition janitorial soapboxes containing a CD in them (along with a few other surprises) will be for sale. Our logic is that since the music that CUSTODIAN makes comes as a re-purposing puree of other materials , the packaging should be no different. The box will be hand numbered and be extremely limited edition making it a fine addition to any collection. Or it could rest beneath your kitchen sink.

We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate this great release! Please help us spread the word about this FREE show. It is from 5-9pm so you can still make plans for later in the night!

New Holly Miranda | "Forest Green Oh Forest Green"

Tonight's the night. We finally get to see The xx! Make sure and get to tonight's SOLD OUT show at the Mohawk early enough to check out the other opener, Holly Miranda. She sounds fantastic! We're hoping she plays her cover of Pink Floyd's "Breathe". The doors open at 8 by the way.

Update: Looks like Holly Miranda had to cancel her opening duties tonight because of a stomach flu. Bummer! Hopefully she'll be back soon enough. Thanks to our twitter friends @ryanljames and @aster_alone for the heads up. You should follow them.

Miranda's debut album The Magician's Private Library is due out on Feb. 23. Produced by Dave Sitek, it includes contributions from himself, Kyp Malone and Jaleel Bunton (TV On The Radio), Eric Biondo and Stuart Bogie (Antibalas), and Holly’s long-time violinist, Marques Toliver. Listen to the first single "Forest Green Oh Forest Green" down below. [Via]

Holly Miranda - Forest Green Oh Forest Green (mp3)

The track is out as a single (7" & digital) and also includes Yoko Ono's " Nobody Sees Me Like You Do". You can purchase it here.

The Golden Filter | "Thunderbird" Video

The new single from The Golden Filter is called "Thunderbird". Just released a few days ago, the 12" includes a b-side of The White Stripes' "The Hardest Button To Button" (which we've loved for a while now). Watch the video and purchase the single from Dummy. [Via]

New Animal Collective | "Graze" [Stream]

Although the new EP doesn't (officially) come out digitally until Tuesday and on CD next month on the 15th, we get to hear the opening track off Animal Collective's Fall Be Kind. Take a listen to "Graze". [Via]

Monolith Fest May Not Happen Next Year

Phoenix by robertcastro.
Seriously it bums us out that we might not get a chance to experience another year of the Monolith Fest. This was our first year and we had a blast, as did all of our friends from Austin and Denver. We were looking forward of making it a yearly occurrence and now we might not get that chance. Hopefully someone will help them out. The official site sums it up in a few sad paragraphs down below.
MONOLITH Fans,

We are very saddened by the nature of this announcement but wanted to bring it to you first. We feel like we have always been very fan-centric, honest and open with you therefore it's important to us to communicate the severity of our current situation. We have tirelessly promoted and produced the Monolith Festival for 3 years now. Over the course of those three years we have witnessed some amazing performances, met a bunch of great friends and produced a very special event that filled our voracious appetite to deliver the most amazing new artists in the world. Many of you who know us know that we do this out of sheer pleasure, undesirable love of music and a vehicle to tout our admiration for hardworking musicians.

With that said, the future of the festival is very grim. A tough economic year and an opening day of chilling rain combined to put a serious dent in our humble operation. We have continued to pursue any and all options that would allow us to recover from this year and head into 2010 with full steam. At this point in time, we have been unable to secure any options. We are communicating this message to you - the fans, the media and the artists who have supported time and time again for good reason. We hope that somewhere, in our vast network of music lovers, that there may be someone with the means to pull us up by our boot straps and give us chance to continue building this amazing event.

If you have any input or know of someone who may be interested in investing in/purchasing our small but mighty event, we would love to speak with them. We have a number of options available for interested parties/individuals. For more information please contact jb@monolithfestival.com. Again, this is our last resort and we have explored just about every option that is available to us. To the folks who we still hold financial obligations to, we whole-heartedly appreciate your patience and willingness to work through this tough time with us.

A very special thanks to the fans who have bought tickets, told your friends, blogged and shouted from the mountaintops about their admiration and love for Monolith. We encourage you to continue this as it can only help our cause. We would also like to thank our loyal, generous sponsors who have been there for us year after year. Specific thanks and credit goes to Esurance who saw our vision for this event and remains the sole reason why this event was even possible.

Best Regards, MONOLITH Team

BLAKROC Album out 11/27

It's all over the net right now so I am sure you have heard of it. But Blakroc is certainly one of our most anticipated releases this year. It will be available 11/27 FYI. What is it? A collaboration between one of our favorite bands The Black Keys and some of hip hops finest. On it you will get tracks featuring Mos Def, Raekwon, RZA, Ludacris and more. They have a trailer and 9 "webisodes" up on the official site. Here is one of my favorite quotes from the making of the album:

Even (Black Keys guitarist) Dan Auerbach "lost his shit" while making the album. With Wu-Tang Clan making the guitarist's top five bands list of all time, watching Raekwon put together his verses blew his mind. "He was sorta what I imagined watching Bob Dylan work in his prime would be like. Raekwon came in, heard the music, got inspired and just sat down and started writing. He wrote like 20 verses, just like that, in 45 minutes. And everything that he says is so visual, such a story. His rhyme schemes are just insane."
