Last Night: Warpaint at Emo's (Inside)

Last night we fell in love with the band Warpaint and we highly suggest you do the same. I honestly can't remember the last time a new band made me this excited. Expect them to dominate during SXSW 2010. We already starting the begging to get them at one of our South By parties....

New Yeasayer | "Ambling Alp"

thubmnail icon: New Yeasayer - "Ambling Alp"
Yeasayer is set to debut their new album Odd Blood (tracklist) on Feb. 9th via Secretly Canadian, but today we get our first (recorded) taste. Listen to "Ambling Alp" (a song they've been performing live for a while now), the first single the band offers up. Starting Nov. 3rd the band will make it available as part of a digital and 12" with by remixes by Memory Tapes + DJ/rupture, as well as an instrumental version thorough amblingalp.com. (via)

Yeasayer - Ambling Alp (mp3)

The band performs at the Guggenghein tonight and is also part of the next week's FFF lineup, so expect to hear this song and hopefully a few more new ones. You've procrastinated long enough, it's time to buy those tickets.

Also follow Yeasayer through the recording of their new album through their blog and twitter (@oddblood).

Last Night: Gossip at Emo's

You have got to love Beth Ditto. With a hoarse voice and a little exhaustion she still managed to put on one of the best shows we've seen in a while. She still sounded amazing and the only criticism of the vocals seemed to be coming from Ditto herself. We highly suggest everyone check out The Peen Scene for their photos from the show. They were in the right spot and have some stellar pics from the show. Us not so much..but you get the idea :)

Sea Wolf | "Wicked Blood" Video

Sea Wolf was just in town last night to perform with Ben Kweller at Emo's to help benefit the Pablove Foundation. The band also just released a new video for their song, "Wicked Blood" off their new album White Water, White Bloom that was just released last month.

Read an interview the Austin A.V. Club conducted with lead singer Alex Church.

Shot back in April, Vincent Moon recorded Holly Miranda for his FiumeNights series. Formerly a member of The Jealous Girlfriends, Miranda's debut is due out next year via XL Recordings, with production from TVOTR's Dave Sitek. Until then, familiarize yourself with her Sleep On Fire EP (listen to it on her official site).

Miranda was also just added to The xx/Friendly Fires bill at next month's (Nov. 19th) Austin show at the Mohawk. We already bought our tickets, and suggest you do the same before the scalpers charge you quadruple the $10 price. Doors open at 8, so make sure and get there early.

Having just finished a tour with The Antlers, the band joined Miranda on stage to help her perform an incredible live rendition of Pink Floyd's classic, "Breathe". Listen down below. (via)

Warpaint | "Stars" Video & 2009 Fall Tour Dates :: w/ Austin date (Emo's)

Warpaint is a Los Angeles band made up of three girls who all sing together, and they all do it so well. They were first on our radar when we discovered they were opening a few dates for Foreign Born, who is another L.A. band we dig. With only a 6 song EP to their name, we can't wait to hear more from this trio. Check out the video for their dreamy pop "Stars" (via).

The band will be making a stop here at Emo's in Austin next week on Thursday, Oct. 29th. Supporting the band will be Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and local band My Education. Tickets ($8) are currently on sale, purchase them here. The rest of the band's tour dates are down below, as well as a few more songs to listen to. New Beach House :: "Zebra" & "Walk in the Park" (Live)

Beach_House_video_still_1.jpg image by mistletone
Upon hearing the news about the new Beach House record yesterday, we decided to do a little sleuthing on Youtube to see if we could find a few of the new songs. Having already seen them perform "Norway" at SXSW, here's a couple more. The first song is entitled "Zebra" and was recorded at a concert back in April on the St. Louis University campus.

The second is called "Walk in the Park" and was recorded at Columbia, Missouri's The Blue Note earlier this month. (via)

El Perro Del Mar | 2009 North American Fall Tour Dates :: w/ Austin date (La Zona Rosa)

Although not officially out until next Tuesday (11/20), we just received our copy of El Perro Del Mar's new album, Love Is Not Pop (pre-order it via Amazon), in the mail yesterday. Having already listened to it a few times, I would have to say the standout tracks for me would have to be "L Is for Love", "Let Me In", and my favorite, "Change of Heart" (listen down below). She even puts a soft spin on her cover of a Lou Reed track ("Heavenly Arms"), listen to the original here. Also read her take on how the album came about for her.
