New Spoon :: "Got Nuffin"
Today, marks the day of Spoon's first new recorded material since their incredible Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga album in 2007. The new three song EP, entitled Got Nuffin, includes the title track (listen down below) as well as two b-sides, "Stroke Their Brains" and the instrumental "Tweakers". You can purchase the album in CD or MP3 form, with vinyl set to be available at the end of July at Spoon's official site.
The band is recording a new album this Summer and hopefully it'll see the light of day towards the end of the year or in early 2010. Read an interview Culture Bully did with lead singer Britt Daniel recently.
Don't forget you can also catch Spoon next week at Stubb's during Spoon X3 taking place on July 9th-11th. Tickets are $28 for each show, but if you can convince three other friends and purchase a four-pack they drop to $20 each. Not a bad deal...

Last Night: The Great Nostalgic and The Authors @ Tripp T-Shirts

We'd like to thank everyone who came out to our event at Tripp T-Shirts on Saturday! It was incredibly hot, but it was definitely nice to cool down with some free Lone Stars and Sweet Leaf Teas! We had a great time, hopefully you did too! Thanks to DJ Orion who kept the party going while spinning a little bit of everything. It was also finally great to see The Great Nostalgic and The Authors. Both bands were incredible live! We'd like to thank the good people at Tripp T-Shirts for their awesomeness and our good friends from Knucklerumbler for helping us put everything together. Alright enough with all that, check out our pics and videos we shot of the bands down below.

Too be honest, I haven't really given Dirty Projectors' new album Bitte Orca much of a listen yet but after watching the video for "Stillness Is The Move", I think it's time for me to stop procrastinating!
Dirty Projectors will be here in Austin on July 15th, performing at Red 7. Tickets ($10) are currently onsale.

Last Night: St. Vincent's Austin Weekend

The line outside of the Mohawk was insane leading up to show time but we managed to get in just in the nick of time. Clark came out and you could see that she was both pleased and surprised with the adoration. She played what I think was a near perfect set in pretty much the order I would choose if given the opportunity. Given that it was the last show of the tour during the encore they invited Pattern Is Movement out and toasted the crowd (and themselves) with a bottle of champagne. So fitting.
St. Vincent Set List - The Mohawk 6.19.09
"Marry Me"
"The Strangers"
"Save Me From What I Want"
"Now, Now"
"Actor Out Of Work"
"Paris Is Burning" (solo)
"The Bed"
"Laughing With A Mouth Of Blood"
"Black Rainbow"
"Marrow"
"Just The Same But Brand New"
Encore:
"The Party"
"Your Lips Are Red"

Seeing that the set at The Mohawk was so amazing the night before I knew that I could expect close to perfection for the Austin City Limits taping. Maybe setting the standards a little high? Yes, but I have to admit it came pretty close. I have to take a second to say that the staff for the tapings are the most amazing people. Everyone that is involved is extremely friendly and helpful from beginning to end. Thanks for that! But back to the show. The taping began promptly and was amazing throughout. She played a set that focused heavily on her latest album Actor and included a fantastic cover of the Beatles song "Dig A Pony". She apparently wasn't happy with her first take of Marry Me so came out after the initial encore for a second shot. No complaints for the crowd. I also picked up this limited poster for the show(below). It was designed by Farley Bookout and the inspiration for the artwork was drawn for her love of war propaganda illustration and Victorian history. Very fitting.

St. Vincent Records a Couple of Videos in a Church
St. Vincent sure is a busy woman these days. She just wrapped up her tour with a trio of shows in Austin this past weekend, which consisted of an afternoon show at Waterloo Records, an evening show at the Mohawk, and a Saturday night taping at the famed ACL TV Studios. We'll be posting our pics/video from her Mohawk show and a review of her ACL Taping later today or tomorrow.
Here's a couple of videos she recently recorded in a church for a Pitchfork TV Special, entitled Cemetery Gates. The first one is for the song "Actor Out of Work", the second is for "The Party". Both are off St. Vincent's incredible sophomore album Actor, which you should probably already own. If not, purchase it here.
Also, don't forget to tune in to Letterman this Wednesday to watch Annie and her amazingly talented band performing on the Sullivan Theater stage.Wonder what song she'll be playing...
Update: She'll be playing quite possibly my favorite song from the new album, "Marrow" on Letterman.

Pearl Jam to Record ACL Taping on October 3rd
Well, it's official! As confirmed by Austin 360 and KLRU's ACL Blog, Pearl Jam will tape an episode of the iconic Austin City Limits TV show on October 3rd, the night before they headline this year's ACL Festival at Zilker Park. To say this taping will be a tough ticket would be an understatement. Pearl Jam is known for playing in front of tens of thousands of people at every festival imaginable and this "ACL Taping" performance will be the most intimate experience anyone will ever experience from the band in the foreseeable future, with capacity set around 320. Yes we said 320 people!
“I sure wish the new studio was ready for Pearl Jam,” Lickona said, referring to the 2,750-capacity venue being built on West Second Street across from City Hall. “We’d still have to turn away people, but not quite as many.” Construction of the $40 million Austin City Limits Theater is expected to be completed in October 2010. [Via Austin 360]In other ACL taping news, M. Ward will taping his own ACL television performance on August 5th, a day after his scheduled performance at Antone's.
There are numerous ways to keep updated for info on how to win tickets to an ACL Taping: keep an eye on KLRU's ACL Blog, sign up for ACL TV's E-Newsletter, follow @ACLtv on Twitter, or by calling (512) 475-9077.

Tallest Day of Summer at Birds Barbershop 6/21

Apparently the Summer Solstice lands on Father's Day 6/21 this year and Birds Barbershop had the genius idea (as always) of celebrating the occasion accordingly. All the Dad's out there that go in for a cut on Sunday will be treated to Free Lone Star tall boys at any of the four of the Bird's Barbershop locations. Great idea and also reminds me that I'm due for a haircut...
