Bankrupt and The Borrowers :: I Love You Baby

This video is
pretty awesome.
I will now have this song
in my head all day.

Crystal Antlers :: "Andrew" Video

While we got to see a crazy amount of bands during SXSW, there unfortunately is a trade-off. You just can't see everyone you want to see, as there's not enough time in the week. Crystal Antlers was one of the bands we regret not seeing live. I absolutely love their song, "Andrew" and am excited to hear the rest of their album Tentacles (it was just released on iTunes today). If you'd like to get the physical copy, it comes out next Tuesday via Touch and Go.

(Via P4K TV)

Catch Crystal Antlers on tour, just not in Austin (unfortunately) for the time being.

Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears :: "Sugarfoot" Video

The long awaited Lost Highway Records full-length debut from Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears was released a few weeks back on St. Patrick's Day. He and his band seemed to be everywhere during SXSW spreading their great music and promoting Tell 'Em What Your Name Is!. The first single "Sugarfoot" is everything you'd expect from him and his super talented band.

Metric Announces 2009 North American Tour Dates

We were excited to find out Metric is going on tour this Summer, but not too pleased they're skipping Austin this time around. Hopefully they make an appearance at this year's Austin City Limits, but we're secretly hoping for a more intimate show. In addition to their amazing music and live show, it would be great to see the beautiful Emily Haines up close (again).

Metric's new album Fantasies drops April 14th, pre-order it here. Check out their video for "Gimme Sympathy". Haines and crew's tour dates are down below.

St. Vincent Rehearsing "An Actor Out Of Work" (Video)

While the lighting in the video isn't the greatest, the sound is, and you can get the gist of how great St. Vincent's new album Actor is gonna sound. We've already heard the amazing first single, "The Strangers" and now here's a video shot during SXSW by the guys who run the All Things Considered blog on NPR. The song is called "An Actor Out Of Work".

St. Vincent's new album Actor will be dropping on May 5th, pre-order it here. Also, catch her on tour starting in May, with a scheduled stop here in Austin on July 19th at the Mohawk. Tickets for the Austin show are only $13, buy them here.

The Helio Sequence Return to Austin on June 4th :: Mohawk

The Helio Sequence are currently on tour with Keane and Matt Kearney but the duo will be making a solo stop here in Austin, TX this summer. They will be taking to the outside stage at the Mohawk on June 4th, almost a year to the day they were here last (they played on June 8th last year).

In addition to being one of our favorite bands to see live, we've helped convert many of our friends into huge fans as well. Tickets are only $12, buy them here.

One Day As A Lion :: "Wild International" Video

We first mentioned the collaboration between Zach de la Rocha and Jon Theodore last July. Now the duo has a video for "Wild International" some eight months later. A full-length album was supposedly due out last Fall, but that never happened. Who knows what the future may bring? A new album? More members? A tour? I'll guess we'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, watch the video for "Wild International".

SXSW 2009 Recap : DEVO (Intro to the show)

We wanted to put this video up of DEVO from SXSW. This is the first few minutes of the show and if you missed out hopefully this gives an idea of the type of show they put on that night. After the show I went on and on to friends about the bands drummer and how amazing I thought he was. I did a little research and was surprised and a little embarrassed when I found it is Josh Freese from NIN, A Perfect Circle. Wow.

White Lies :: "Fairwell To The Fairground" (Live From SXSW 2009)

We posted our SXSW Recap of White Lies a few days ago, but we'd like to show you another video we recorded from their show. Here's "Fairwell To The Fairground".

SXSW Hangover, Random Thought's and Interesting Links....

Just a couple of thoughts from this past week.

R.I.P =The Famousish :: Seems the guys decided to call it quits this week and wow are we going to miss them. Our first encounter with the blog led us to a Hot Chip after party at somebodies house during ACL weekend. We don't remember many of the details from that night but I know we had a good time and I will always thank them for that. Check out the archives and drop a comment begging them to reconsider.

El Paso,TX Is the New Brooklyn? :: Vanity Fair just put the best article up about how El Paso has become ground zero for a "new' musical movement with artists like the Yeah Yeah Yeah's (pictured above) recording in the West Texas city and Beck playing secret shows there. Being from El Paso it's good to see that people are starting take notice.

SXSW Recaps will be done by this weekend :: Hope everyone is enjoying all the videos and pictures we were able to put together from last weeks SXSW. We have a few more and will be wrapping up our recap over the weekend. Then move on to the upcoming tours rolling through town as well as coverage of the Coachella and Sasquatch Festivals.

Nites' Hate Mail :: Videographer and fellow Austin blogger Nites' received the funniest hate mail today. So funny in fact that he dedicated and entire post to it. Check out the entire post by clicking on the link above. I didn't know Built By Snow had such dedicated fans! Oh and if anyone from Built By Snow sees this we would love to know your thoughts on this letter. Please.

Our show :: We are putting together a show right now that will be happening on April 10th. Mark your calendars and we will have details next week. We are pretty much putting all of our favorite bands on one bill. Keep checking back for that and clear your calendars....

SXSW 2009 Recap : Bell at the I Guess I'm Floating Party :: Scholz's Garten

We've been wanting see Bell since last March when we first wrote about her. She grabbed our attention because she performed a cover of Björk's "It's Oh So Quiet" for Stereogum's Björk tribute album, Enjoyed: A Tribute To Björk's Post.

It was a little trek to Scholz's Garten, but definitely well worth it for her incredible voice and the great brisket at the I Guess I'm Floating Day Party. Check out a video we recorded of one of her new songs entitled, "Suerte Loca".

SXSW 2009 Recap : The Pains of Being Pure at Heart at Terrorbird/ForceField Party :: Red 7

Having written about The Pains of Being Pure at Heart right before SXSW, we knew they were playing ten shows and would probably get to see them (eventually), but we managed to sneak them in on the first day. They took the outside stage at Red 7 before Beach House was set to perform inside and sounded great! Also be sure to check out the AMAZING pictures You Ain't No Picasso has too. Check out the video we recorded of "Come Saturday".

Black Lips :: "I'll Be With You" (Acoustic) Video

A few days ago, Stereogum put up Black Lips' new video for "I'll Be With You". We were looking around on the net and found an acoustic version of the song they did for a London site called Bandstand Busking.

Bandstand Busking also recorded an interview with Black Lips, as well as acoustic versions of "Starting Over", "Bad Kids", and "Bow Down and Die".

Silversun Pickups Post a Teaser Video for Their New Album, Swoon

At the beginning of the year, Silversun Pickups offered us a glimpse into the studio while recording their sophomore album Swoon. Earlier this month we also posted the first single, "Panic Switch" , which made us even more excited to own the new album (due out April 14th by the way). Now SSPU give us a small clip with a video that slowly morphs into the album's cover.

Santigold Announces 2009 North American Tour Dates :: w/ Austin date

File:Santogold at Eurockéennes de Belfort 2008 02.jpg

Last year, there was quite a buzz in the blogosphere for newcomer Santogold Santigold. We took in her show at last year's FADER SXSW party and knew there was something special about her. 2008 was definitely her year, as she was everywhere from working with Jay-Z, to opening up for Coldplay, and even had a song used in a Bud Light commercial.

Santigold is taking to the road beginning with an appearance tomorrow at Miami's Ultra Music Festival and in June she'll be returning here in Austin to play at Stubb's. No word on ticket prices or when they go onsale, but we'll let you know.

SXSW 2009 Recap : Hockey at Filter's Cedar Street Showdown

I think Hockey was one of new bands Richard was most excited to see. He was right, cause these guys definitely brought it. After watching them, he dubbed them a more upbeat Walkmen. We should be hearing more and more from these guys in the near future. Their debut should be dropping sometime in the Summer and we can't wait to get our hands on it. We recorded a video for their catchy, soon-to-be-everywhere song, "Too Fake". Enjoy.

Mile High Music Festival exploded on to the national festival scene last year as hosts to Colorado's largest music and arts festival, offering concertgoers a tremendous variety of musical talent, food from many of Denver's top restaurants, an artists' village and more. The festival, which attracted more than 90,000 attendees its inaugural year, went off without a hitch and promises again to put the fan experience first. The festival grounds, with its remarkable views of the Denver skyline and Rocky Mountain Front Range, will offer even more shade and misting tents, an increased number of free water stations, and shorter concession lines. The 2009 event also boasts an upgraded VIP experience and expanded festival greening initiatives.

This year's Mile High Music Festival introduces a charity component as a special thank you to the community that is helping make the event a Colorado summer tradition. A portion of the ticket proceeds will benefit Commerce City's Quality Community Foundation (QCF). "This is extremely good news," said Commerce City Mayor Paul Natale. "The city is very excited to again be apart of the Mile High Music Festival and for AEG Live to donate money to the city's Quality Community Foundation is just music to my ears." The Quality Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established by Commerce City in 2006. It grants money to organizations that provide nonprofit services to Commerce City residents.

Tickets for Mile High Music Festival will go on sale Friday, April 3, at 10:00 a.m. MDT online at http://www.tickethorse.comand http://www.milehighmusicfestival.com, by phone at 866-461-6556 and at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Box Office. They can also be purchased with a credit card at the Ticket Outlet Kiosks in twelve Dick's Sporting Goods stores. The Paramount Theatre Box Office will be open on Friday, April 3 from 10 am - 2 PM to sell MHMF tickets to walk-up customers only. Ticket prices are $162.50 (plus service charges) for a 2-Day Pass. A limited number of Single Day Tickets will be available for $90.00 (plus service charges) while supplies last. Two-day VIP Packages are also available: $400.00 (plus service charges) for the Mile High VIP Pass and $1250.00 for the Mile High Apex experience (plus service charges).

Mile High Music Festival's two-day weekend pass is available this year on a Layaway Program. The Layaway Program offers an opportunity to pay for the price of a two-day pass in two installments, with 50% plus service charges due at time of purchase and the remaining 50% balance due on June 12.

The festival will also offer a Carpool Package for $650.00 and includes four two-day passes and special carpool parking. Carpoolers are encouraged to participate in the Mile High Music Festival Carpool Contest. Participants are asked to decorate their vehicles to draw attention to their green driving efforts. Winners will be randomly chosen on each day of the festival and awarded VIP upgrades for each rider in the vehicle.

Visit www.milehighmusicfestival.com for details. The Fields at Dick's Sporting Goods Park is conveniently located just nine miles from downtown Denver, and only 1.8 miles from the I-70 and Quebec exit.

SXSW 2009 Recap : Chairlift at Under The Radar Party :: Flamingo Cantina

Chairlift was a band we've had on our radar for a little while now and we finally got to see their set last Friday at Flamingo Cantina. Although the venue isn't known for its sound (Caroline looked a little perturbed while setting up), that didn't scare off too many people, as it was pretty packed. We had a nice spot on the right front part of the stage and we shot a video of their first song they played, "Planet Health".

Passion Pit Announces 2009 U.S. Summer Tour Dates :: w/ Austin date (Emo's)

With so many bands to check out at SXSW, of course we couldn't catch everyone we wanted to see. I'm sure glad Passion Pit is coming back to town, cause unfortunately they were one of the few we missed.

The guys have already released an EP, entitled The Chuck of Change, which singer Michael Angelakos originally put together as a (belated) Valentine's Day present for his girlfriend. As luck would have it the "present" was eventually handed out to friends and fellow students at Emerson College and ended up bending the ear of Frenchkiss Records. Their debut full-length,
Manners is due out May 19th. Listen to the first single, "The Reeling" at their Myspace. Pre-order the new album here.

Passion Pit will embarking on a Summer tour and will be swinging by Emo's (outside) here in Austin on June 3rd. Tickets are only $12. Buy them here.

SXSW 2009 Recap : Beach House at Terrorbird/Forcefield Party :: Red 7

Beach House by robertcastro.

With all that was going on, I didn't think we were going to get an opportunity to see Beach House during SXSW, but everything worked out perfectly. They took a little longer to set up and in the process we missed Vivian Girls on the outside stage, but it was well worth it in the end. You couldn't have torn me away from Victoria and Alex's set inside Red 7. They absolutely blew me away! We took a video of one of their new songs so you can see what we mean.
