Check out our pics and video from Spoon's performance at The Parish last year.

In addition to working on new songs, the band has been very busy with other projects. Here's what they've been up to:

Britt covered the Crooked Fingers song "Run, Lieutenant, Run" for a digital-only Crooked Fingers EP entitled Your Control, which will be available on iTunes on March 3rd. He spent the past three months producing the new album by Brooklyn's White Rabbits, which he says "was like summer camp, only in the dead of winter, in Brooklyn, with a bunch of chain-smokers." The record was mixed in January with longtime Spoon collaborator Mike McCarthy and it comes out on TBD Records on May 19th.

Jim produced the excellent debut LP by Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears, which came out on January 27 on Lost Highway.

Rob is doing some shows with the Get Up Kids throughout this year and he will also be looking after Jeff Byrd from time to time.

Eric has been spending time in Texas and New York working on a solo project.

Red Hot
Spoon contributed a song entitled "Well-Alright" to a new Red Hot compilation called Dark Was The Night, which was just released worldwide on 4AD. This album is composed of 31 exclusive tracks by different bands and is available as a double cd or a triple vinyl (or a download.) It benefits the Red Hot Organization – an international charity dedicated to raising money and awareness for HIV and AIDS. For more information, go here.

New Metric Concert Videos :: World Cafe Live in Philadelphia (2/17)

On Monday we posted the acoustic version of Metric's new single, "Help I'm Alive". After doing a little research, we found out Metric played a "secret show" a week and half ago at World Cafe Live in Philly. Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw (1/2 of Metric) took to the stage to play a more stripped-down show, only using an acoustic guitar and an electric piano. A local blog called The Pish Room took some amazing video of two new songs, "Gold Guns Girls" and the aforementioned "Help I'm Alive", as well as a video of a Buffalo Springfield cover entitled, "Expecting To Fly". I love this band! Watch and enjoy...

SXSW 2009: Blackberry announce SXSW party with Dinosaur Jr., Primal Scream, Grizzly Bear and more

This line up is one of the best that I have seen all week and that means that it will also be one of the hardest to get into. It's a night show and that means badges and wristbands will be required. But if you have the patience (and money for a small cover) I would suggest getting there super early and camping out for a good spot. Either way it is in a courtyard and you can still check out the show from the street if you want.

Party Ends announces Space Camp

Our fellow Austinites just announced their SXSW plans. They always have some great parties at Birds Barbershop on South Lamar. This year they are moving the party east to the newest location of Birds. Even better it serves as a grand opening of the new location as well. How fitting.
The line up is ridiculous and I have to give props to them for scoring N.A.S.A. I'm equally excited that Busdriver is also on the bill. It all goes down on Thursday March 19th. Make Note.

Rachael Ray announces SXSW Day Party

For some reason Rachael Ray has a SXSW party every year. Could it be because her husband has dreams of rock stardom and needs an avenue to let loose? Maybe. But she still manages to put together some really great bands. She had Holy Fuck last year! And mix that with some of the best eats you can find during SXSW and you have a pretty good party.  Best of all it's free.

SXSW Spotlight : White Lies

UK buzz band White Lies are exalted in their homeland and are fast catching steam on U.S. soil, too.  Just yesterday the young lads made their cover debut on influential UK publication, NME , as the new face of the dark indie movement permeating from across the pond.  The trio are relentlessly touring Europe at the moment, will kick off the U.S. leg of their tour at SXSW and are also confirmed to perform at this year’s Coachella. (see dates below) The first single To Lose My Life makes its U.S. premiere March 17.

Check out the new title track remix from Filthy Dukes, who rework their catchy hooks and ominous tones to create a melancholy electronic masterpiece.

We got to go to the SPIN bash back in 2006 (Thanks again Janelle!). It was so awesome to see We Are Scientists right in front of the stage and before they blew up. There was free BBQ, free whiskey, and best of all, we got to meet the band as well.

For the first time ever, SPIN will be giving away loads of passes to the invite-only event. Stay tuned to SPIN.com in the coming weeks for details, and for loads of SXSW preview coverage.

By far, my favorite song on Cold War Kids sophomore album, Loyalty To Loyalty, has to be "I've Seen Enough".

Just yesterday, we informed you Cold War Kids would be playing a free show at this year's SXSW at Auditorium Shores with M. Ward and Explosions in the Sky. Then in April, the foursome will embark on a tour with Death Cab for Cutie and Ra Ra Riot.

New Beck Video: "Replica"

Beck's Modern Guilt was one of our favorite albums last year. In his newest video for "Replica", he goes for the black and white route.  [Via Spinner]

You can also hear Beck covering Bob Dylan's "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" on the new War Child:  Heroes compilation, which just came out today.

Last month, Metric finally announced their new album, Fantasies, will be released on April 14th. Most of you have already heard a few new songs, "Gimme Sympathy" and "Help I'm Alive". Now we get to hear an acoustic version of "Help I'm Alive".

Pitchfork also has an interview with Jimmy Shaw and Emily Haines of Metric.

New Kid Cudi Video: "Day N Nite"

Kid Cudi's "Day N Nite" came out last year, but now we finally get an official video (directed by So Me) and it's a creative one. He'll be spitting rhymes at SXSW and we're hoping Wale joins him onstage.

New Black Lips Video: "Short Fuse"

The Black Lips have had a pretty eventful year so far, with being run out of India and all. I'm sure it's only gonna get crazier as they travel around the U.S. and make it to Austin for SXSW.

Here's the video for "Short Fuse" off their new album, 200 Million Thousand, which by the way is due out tomorrow. Last.fm is currently streaming the album if you'd like to hear it.

More New Yeah Yeah Yeah's - "Heads Will Roll"

Last week, we got to listen "Zero", the first track off Yeah Yeah Yeah's new album It's Blitz (due out April 14th). Now thanks to Kanye, another new song surfaces, "Heads Will Roll". YYYs aren't afraid to try something new and it definitely sounds great so far. We're really excited for the new album!

What do you all think of the new songs so far?

Last Night: Lykke Li at Waterloo Records (Instore)

Lykke Li by you.

"Little Bit"

Lykke Li by you.

Lykke Li by you.

Lykke Li by you.

Lykke Li by you.

"Dance Dance Dance"

We shot the first video ("Little Bit") using our new Flip Mino HD camcorder. It's awesome for those stipped-down, acoustic videos and can hold up to an hour of video. It's really small as well, fits right in your pocket and even has a usb built in, so you can plug it directly into your computer. For more on The Flip, check out their official site.

Also check out our pics/video from the Lykke Li show at Webster Hall in NYC.

Last Night: LA Riots at The Church (Denver, Co)

Do you remember where you where in 1992? Many of us were clued to our television sets watching the Los Angeles riots unfold right in front of our eyes. On Thursday night the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado witnessed a different form of LA Riots, this time in the form of the DJ super-group hailing from the left coast. On a bill that featured Kid Cudi, who ultimately cancelled last minute to be on BET’s 106 and Park show to debut his new video Day N’ Nite. Although many in the crowd were left out in the cold (literally) with Cudi’s cancellation, Daniel LeDisko of LA Riots turned the one-time gothic church venue into an all out dance party. With customary club banging remixes that are associated with the Los Angeles duo, the crowd seemed to enjoy hit after hit. Even the club dancers were dressed in scantily clad riot gear to celebrate the occasion. After a few songs the club seemed to forget that Kid Cudi had cancelled and let loose to the beat of one of the West Coast’s finest. Blending a mix of indie and electro Daniel ignited the floor with remixes of The Ting Tings and Stevie Nicks to name a few. Currently on tour the duo will return to Denver in April after a stint next month at SXSW where I’m sure I will see at a random day party enjoying the Texas heat.

Leonard Cohen Announces 2009 North American Tour Dates :: w/ Austin dates

Earlier this year, there was a rumor that Leonard Cohen was starting his tour here in Austin. Well, the rumor is true.  After playing a three-hour, six-encore set (setlist here) in front of a sold-out crowd at New York's famed Beacon Theatre last night (his first show on American soil in fifteen years), his North American tour has just been announced today. Tickets will sell out very, very quickly!
